You've got a few options to check the status of your UAE visa. Let's walk you through it, step by step.

When to Check the Status?

Here are some situations when it's a good idea to check your UAE visa status:
  1. Before travel: Ready to take a vacation or travel for work? Make sure all your documents are in good shape.
  2. Migration or employee onboarding: If you're starting a new job or moving to a different UAE company, ensure your visa is up-to-date. This is important to avoid penalties and legal problems.
  3. Expiry period: Check the status of your visa regularly. Especially when the expiration date is approaching to avoid problems.
  4. Change of status: For instance, you have applied for a change from a tourist visa to a residence visa.
  5. After visa application submission: Once you've submitted your visa application or renewed it, you should keep checking the status from time to time to stay in the loop about any changes or updates.
  6. If you shift employment: When changing employers, check your visa status to avoid your residency

How to Check. ICP Portal

The first way is to use the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICP) website. All Emirates except Dubai work this way. You must have a valid application number (PRAN) or Emirates ID number (IDN).
  1. Visit the ICP Portal.
  2. On the home page, scroll down and find the "Check Application Status" form.
  3. Enter your valid application number (PRAN) or Emirates ID number (IDN) and click "Check".
  4. Done!

Submitted in Dubai? Go to the GDRFA portal

If you have a visa issued in Dubai, follow these steps:
  1. Visit the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA-Dubai) official site.
  2. Click on the "Visa Status" section at the top of the home page.
  3. Fill in the necessary information and click “Search”.
  4. After submission, the system will display your visa’s current status, validity, and expiry date.

Check On a Go — ICA Smart Services Portal

You can also check your visa status on the go using your passport number or phone. Note that it only works after you've got your visa and not while you're waiting for it. Check this out:
  1. Visit the ICP Smart Services Portal. You also can access it through the ICP home page: Services - Smart Services - Show more;
  2. Go to "Public Services" and select "File Validity";
  3. Select the "Residency" or "Visa" option. The Visa option is for visit visas, e-visa, and entry permits only;
  4. Fill in the Passport Information;
  5. Done! After submission, the system will show you your visa validity status.

Offline Methods

As an alternative, you can visit the nearest GDRFA office in your emirate. A lot of emirates in the UAE have their own offices that deal with residency and visas. Bring your passport, Emirates ID (if you have one), any old visa or reference numbers from applications if you have them.

You can also visit a Tawjeeh Center in Dubai that can help you with visa and residency issues.
